on:Captivating Capiz Roxas City belong to the western visayas region VI, First District of Capiz, province of capiz. The mayor of Roxas City has Mr. Vicente Bermejo who has elected during the 2007 election.
Historical Background
The great conquistador, MIguel Lopez de legaspi, came to the settlement from Cebu when he found in the later place, hostile natives, lack of food and the portuguese enemy. This was in 1560, from years after Legaspi landed in cebu.
A sagacious man, Legaspi employed the policy of attraction in capiz. In 1746, capiz was mande the seat of politico-military government although it was stil occleasiastically controlled by the bishoporic of cebu until May 11,1837 when a royal decree made the provice unto an alcadia.
1757, Capiz town was offically separated from panay and was madde the capital of the province of capiz. before the coming of the spaniards to the philippines, the existence of a progressive Maryan settlement in Capiz had been known far and wide. this settlement had extensive commercial relation with the islands of luzon, Masbate, cebu, mindanao and even borneo. December 8, 1899, the american forces landed in panay and took complete control of the island. during the american regime, several sons of the town of capiz rose to graetness such as president of the philippine commonwealth Manuel A. Roxas, Senator Jose Altavas, Antonio Belo, Jovita Fuentes.
April 15, 1942, Japanese invaders took the town of capiz. the people groaned under the iron hands of teh japanesse but on october 1945, capiz was free from japanese rule. On April 11, 1941, president Elpidio Quirino signed into the law republic Act No. 603 creating the capital town into a city on may 12, 1951, it became a chartered citty name “Roxas City” in honor of the first president of the republic of the philippines, President Manuel A. Roxas.

The city classified as a second Class Component city belongs to the first political district of the province of capiz along with the municipalities of maayon panay panitan pilar pntevedra and pres. Roxas. Roxas city has subdivided with 47 barangays.also second distinct of the province of capiz along the municipalities of sigma capiz,dumalag capiz.
SIGMA was named after the town’s first executive datu, a powerful ruler named Datu Cayongyong Mahinay. The Datu, with the frequent recurrence of his normal cold illness and often blowing his nose, in dialect “naga-sikma” was popularly known among his followers and other “Datus” ruliing the neighboring regions as “Datu Sikma”. Hence, the town named Sigma from the word “Sikma”.
dumalag is a 4th class municipality in the province of capiz.dumalag is politically subdivided into 19 barangays.
Dumalag, one of the central towns of Capiz Province, was founded by the Augustinians in 1590. Later, it passed on to the bishopric but in 1614 or 1615, it reverted back to the Augustinians. Its supposed original name “Ayombong” was replaced with Dumalag in 1631. Several folklores have been recounted on how the town came to be called Dumalag, as it is known today. According to Fr. Juan Fernandez, the name came from the Bisayan word “dalag” which means yellow. This is because it is claimed that most of the early inhabitants of this town were of Chinese ancestry.
Roxas City is situated at the Northeastern tip of the Island of Panay within the geograpical coordinates of 122 and 25′ longitudes and 11 35′ latitude. its boundaries are: Visayan Sea on the North, Municipality Of Panitan on the South, Municipality of ivisan on the west, and Municipality of panay on the East. It is located 250 nautical miles southeast of manila 135 likometers northeast of iloilo city, and 86 kilometers east of kalobo,Aklan. Travel time to manila is 445 minutes by air and 18 hours by boat.
Roxas City has basically an agri-based economy, Farming and Fishing are the major source of income of the people of Roxas City.

1910 Pres. Pastor Alcazar consturcted a water tank near the City hal to provide water to all the capizeño during dry months. Later the city government with a group of culture buffs brains converted the spared water tank into a museum.
This historical house was the birthplace of the late president Manuel A. Roxas. located at corner Rizal S. Roxas City, a very historical place here in the town
Baybay Beach, were just 3kms, from the city proper. This 10km. stetch of fine gray sand. BAyBAy Beach is ideal for swimming, snorkeling, boating and kayaking.
An hour travel from the city proper, this islasnd blessed with white sand beach just like boracay you will in this island, this island fits everyone dream to runawa from the hassle in the city life. it is also idea for swimming, snorking and scuba diving.
A kilometer away from the baybay beach, has been iidentified by the department of tourism as an ideal for diving spot for scuba diveers. the say that this island is the “Good Luck island“.
